Enjoy a little camaraderie while munching on locally-prepared edibles and shopping for the benefit of the Cincinnati Zoo's efforts to save endangered gorillas at Green Drinks Cincinnati’s third annual Shop Green 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at Park + Vine. Organizers are accepting donations to offset the cost of the actual green drinks (i.e., locally brewed beer). Based on past experience the store fills up fast so arrive early.

Hey Everyone, Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I know that this is late notice but we just got word. Green Drinks November is going to be at the ZOO this Monday evening (11/30) from 6-8pm. We will be meeting in the zoo's new parking lot on Vine St. (It's the one that the new bridge attaches to.) Were going to be hanging out at the Zoo's new "bar", The Watering Hole, and Zoo Super Star Mark Fisher will join us for some green adult beverages. Unfortunately, if you don't meet the group at six in the parking lot you'll have to pay admission to meet up, but get there by six and admission is free! So come on out and check out the nations greenest zoo, get a free sneak peek of the Festival of Lights and have a beer with local greenies and "the man" Mark Fisher. Hope to see you there!

November Green Drinks Cincy

Hey Everybody,

Just wanted to give everyone the low down on the November Green
Drinks. We were trying to hold it at the ZOO on our usual third
Thursday but instead we thought that we'd coordinate it with the
Festival of Lights and hold our meeting the last day of November or in
that first week of December. We're just waiting on the word from the
ZOO. They are getting our speaker, Mark Fisher's availability in
line.

Anyhow, I will be posting an update as soon as I have one. Sorry for
any trouble this causes, but it should be a good event when it
actually goes down. Drinks at the ZOO's new watering hole, a sneak
peak of the festival of lights and a top notch speaker in Mark
Fisher. Hope you all can make it!

Oh, and December's Green Drinks will be at Park + Vine on the third
Thursday as usual. Details to follow here too!

Eco-Village up on Enright Street in Price Hill. We will be touring
the Village and it's illustrious Urban Gardens, all while sipping a
beer and talking it up with all your eco-professional colleagues,

Enright Street in front of the Imago headquarters at the entrance to

Just wanted to remind everyone about the May green drinks this Thursday at the Northside Tavern from 5:30 to 7:30. In honor of bike month, we have Council member Greg Harris speaking a bit about the proposed Spring Grove bike corridor at 6:45. (so we could run a little later than our usual 7:30). Also, we might have a rep from MOBO, Cincinnati's Bike Co-op, come say a few words a little earlier in the evening. Hope you can make it out!

In addition, we have changed our summer schedule just a bit. We will be moving the Zoo green drinks to later on in the summer and instead we will be taking the July green drinks up to Enright Ridge Urban Eco-Village, for a tour of the Village and it's gardens, to get a close up look at urban agriculture at it's best. Just want to let everyone know what our summer schedule of events is looking like.

In May, were going to honor Bike Month by talking Cincinnati biking at the Northside tavern and hearing from the likes of Mobo (A local bike co-op, www.mobobicyclecoop.org) and hopefully Greg Harris (the Council member who proposed the Spring Grove Ave. bike corridor).

Then, in June were heading to Park + Vine for a natural networking event by natural awakenings that is going to be awesome. Check it out.............

July's Green Drinks is going to be held at the Cincinnati Zoo. Soon to be the greenest Zoo in the world with the help of Mark Fischer, the zoo's Senior Director of Facilities & Planning. Mark is going to show us first hand how they are accomplishing this feat.

August is a long way off, but if all goes well we will be taking a cruise down the Ohio with ORSANCO (Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission, www.orsanco.org) and learning about the their organization and maybe even a little the river we all know and love.

Green Drinks Holiday Party December 6th

December is fast approaching, and that means its holiday season. So, we thought we would throw our very own Holiday Party for December Green Drinks. Unlike our usual third Thursday Green Drinks (we thought everyone would be super-busy then), we are moving Green Drinks for December up a couple weeks to the first Thursday of the month, December 6th. We also have a change of our usual venue. The Holiday Party will be held at Park + Vine, Cincinnati's green general store.

If you are able to, we would love to have some munchies available, so bring a favorite dish, snack, or adult beverage if possible. We know, however, that many of you come straight from work - so bringing food is certainly not a requirement to come have fun with us. Beer will be
available for a small suggested donation (probably $2 per beer).

To help get everyone in the holiday spirit, Park + Vine will be donating 10% of the money us Green Drinkers spend that night to the Everybody Rides Metro foundation, allowing the less fortunate among us to gain mobility throughout the city. So, wear red and buy green with
us on December 6th.

Join us on Thursday, November 15th for November Green Drinks at
Arnold's Bar and Grill. We have two University of Cincinnati students
coming to tell us about two really cool projects. James Ramey is a
senior in Political Science who heads up Sustainable UC, a project to
green the university and establish a sustainable residence hall.
Brendan Weaver is a senior in Urban Planning who this past year
started an urban garden in Over-the-Rhine, complete with organic
veggies and a rainwater collection system.

So, come have a drink with us at Arnold's on November 15th to have
fun, chat with other greenies in the area, and hear more about green
happenings in the Cincinnati area. Hope to see you there!

Hey all,

There will be lots to talk about when we have our monthly Green Drinks tomorrow, October 18th. Following news that all new Ohio public schools will be LEED-certified, downtown is on its way to (finally) getting recycling drop offs, and the good news that the Cincinnati streetcar is working its way through council, the conversation should be lively. In addition, we have Jim Coppock, head of the city's Bike/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (Bike/PAC) biking down from City Hall to give us the scoop on the city's efforts to become more bikeable and walkable. So, stop on down and have a tasty Oktoberfest brew (or other drink to your liking) at Arnold's tomorrow night - hope to see you there.

UC Solar Decathlon Reception Tomorrow!

Students walking through the University of Cincinnati's campus this summer have seen a house rise from the ground in front of Braunstein Hall. The house is the University's entrance into the 2007 Solar Decathlon, a competition between 20 selected schools to build the best solar-powered home and promote sustainable design. UC's team is about ready to take their show on the road - their re[form] project will be shipping off to Washington D.C. soon where it will be assembled on the National Mall and judged alongside the other competitors.

So, now is the time to go check out this revolutionary home that combines environmental sensitivity with kick-ass architecture, engineering and design. The UC Solar Decathlon team will be holding an open-house/reception tomorrow (Wednesday), September 12th at the school from 5pm to 8pm. Everyone is invited to come see the result of the team's hard work and dedication - but if you are feeling generous, please try and help the team (and the house) on their trip to D.C. and back. Reception starts at 5, presentation starts at 5:30. Please, try to RSVP to cincinnati.reform@gmail.com if you plan on coming. So, stop by Braunstein Hall on UC's campus and show your support!

Larry comes to us from Kansas City, where he was Deputy Director for Natural Resources for Jackson County. He will be speaking to us about the aims of the city's new environmental office and how we can create a more sustainable Cincinnati. Cincinnati Green Drinks' June shindig is right around the bend, on Thursday June 21. This month, we will be meeting at Cincinnati's newest green store, Park + Vine, to check out their eco-friendly goods. As a special for Green Drinkers, Park + Vine is offering 10% off everything in the store the night of Green Drinks! Beer will be provided by the Cincinnati Green Drinks crew, with a suggested donation towards the Cincinnati Green Drinks fund of $3 at the door. So, if you haven't been to Park + Vine yet, this is your chance to check out one of the coolest stores in the city. See you all there!

It's About Time: Green Energy Coming Soon

While Duke Energy customers in Indiana have been able to buy power produced from wind/solar/biomass for a little while now, Ohio customers have not had the chance...until now. DE is soon to pilot a green energy for the Cincinnati area that will last until the end of 2008 (and hopefully they keep it). Customers will soon be able to sign up for a certain amount of their total energy to come from green sources. This starts at 200kWh (the average customer according to the Cincinnati Enquirer uses 850/month) for $5 extra a month, with the option of purchasing blocks of 100kWH extra at $2.50. Even if you buy the minimum amount offered, it is an easy way to make a huge difference for the environment and a help the area to become more energy independent. May's edition of Green Drinks Cincinnati is going to be held next Thursday, 5/17 at Arnold's Bar and Grill (courtyard area). Imago, a Cincinnati nonprofit that focuses on greenspace preservation and urban ecology, will be stopping by to tell us a little bit about what they do. Green Drinks starts at 5:30 with the Imago presentation probably around 6. So, come on out (hopefully the weather stays this beautiful), bring a friend (or three) and come grab a drink with your fellow eco-Cincinnatians.

April Green Drinks: Learn About the Cincinnati Streetcar Proposal

For this month's Green Drinks, we are mixing it up a little - and we couldn't be more excited. Dan Deering, member of the Cincinnati Streetcar Development Group, is going to be giving us a presentation on the proposed Cincinnati streetcar system. As such, we are meeting at glaserworks (at the corner of 8th and Sycamore) for the multimedia streetcar presentation first, and then we will be following up at Arnold's Bar and Grill for drinks. This is a very exciting proposal, and could shape the future of the city center as we know it. We sincerely hope you can make it!

Learn About LEED Neighborhood Design

Douglas Farr of Farr Associates will be in town on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 to discuss LEED (a green building rating system) for neighborhoods. Farr is the chair of of the LEED Neighborhood Deisng project, so this should be a very informative presentation. Tickets are $20 (students $10) - get them here.

Cincinnati Considers Cuts to Recycling Program

Update: The public hearing on the recyling program set for February 12th has been cancelled.

In the most recent city budget, reductions were recommended for the city's recycling program. Instead of recycling pick-up every week, the budget recommends a bi-weekly collection, effectively cutting the number of recycling collections in the city by half. Without the convenience of equal collection for both waste and recycling, the city is bound to reduce the overall amount that citizens recycle yearly (12,250 tons in 2005). If you want to speak up on the proposed reduction of service, the city will be holding a public meeting on ~~Monday, February 12th at 6:00pm at City Hall~~. Please come and let city council know how you feel!

November Green Drinks Meeting

Come one, come all! Green Drinks Cincinnati will have its inaugural meeting this Thursday, November 16th at Vernon Manor (at the corner of Oak Street and Burnet Ave). Thing will get under way around 5:30 pm and will go until at least 7 pm. Jerry Janszen, Director of Building Value, will be giving a short presentation about Building Value and its creative reuse of building materials. Then, check out the proposed Ohio to Erie Trail which includes both the existing trail and the proposed extension.

Finally, take a minute to write Mayor Mallory and City Council to show your support for the extension.
